Djoudj

Reserve

< West Africa < Senegal

About an hour's drive outside of St. Louis, upstream on the Senegal River, is the Djoudj Reserve. It's the first wet spot south of the Sahara desert, and birds in great abundance stop here while migrating along the Atlantic coast. Seven of us staying at the hotel arranged for a car and lunch. Once in the reserve, we travelled by piroge to an island covered by pelicans. A few alligators and wild boar were also spotted and a good time was had by all.
